For an A229 Plus front-and-rear camera that must record while the car is parked, the VIOFO HK4 is a supported hardwire option. It supplies power and an ignition-state signal, allowing the camera to switch between driving and parking recording. Buy it for that specific job. A USB-C plug alone does not establish equivalent compatibility, and the kit does not promise a fixed number of parked recording hours.
The short buying answer
Choose the A229 Plus 2CH if you want front and rear coverage; this is the dual 1440p model, not the A229 Pro or a three-camera cabin bundle. Add HK4 when you want automatic parking operation from the vehicle electrical system and can arrange a suitable installation. If you only need driving footage from the supplied car charger, there is no reason to add a hardwire kit just because it appears beside the camera.
For several days in an airport car park, do not choose this combination on an assumed overnight or multi-day runtime. Battery condition, vehicle power management, temperature, camera settings and the installation all affect when recording stops. Decide how much parked coverage you need before paying for accessories.

Still choosing the camera itself? Compare parking-mode dash cams by how they capture parked events before choosing a power kit. This page answers the narrower A229 Plus and HK4 compatibility question; a supported power kit alone does not make all cameras record the same way.
What the camera and hardwire kit include
| Item | What our selected listing covers | Budget or compatibility check |
|---|---|---|
| A229 Plus 2CH | Front and rear cameras, rear connection cable, car charger and mounting accessories | HK4 and a recording microSD card are separate purchases. |
| HK4, selected 4 m pack | Type-C hardwire kit; the selected title advertises eight fuse taps | Confirm the actual pack contents and the fuse-tap type your vehicle needs. An assortment is not universal fit. |
| Recording card | Not included in the selected camera kit | Use a capacity and card model supported by VIOFO for the exact camera. |
| Installation | Not included with either product | Allow for compatible vehicle connections, cable routing and labor. |

The Amazon HK4 title includes a fuse-tap assortment, while generic listing text also tells buyers to prepare taps. Treat that as a reason to check the selected package, not as proof that every car is covered. A second camera channel also means routing a rear cable; the hardwire kit does not eliminate that part of the installation.

Why an ordinary USB-C cable is different
VIOFO’s HK4 manual describes three vehicle-side functions: constant battery power, an ACC or ignition-switched signal, and ground. Its USB-C output then feeds the camera. Constant power makes parked recording possible; the ignition signal tells the supported camera when driving has ended. Those are separate jobs.

A normal USB-C charging cable may supply electricity, but its connector shape does not show that it carries the behavior this parking setup expects. Likewise, another VIOFO kit having a USB-C connector is not enough to approve it for an A229 Plus. Match the camera model against the kit’s stated compatibility, not just its plug.
If your question is whether a dash camera can run after the ignition is off at all, our guide to dash cameras with the car switched off covers the broader power choices. Here the purchase decision is the exact A229 Plus and HK4 pairing.
What the voltage cutoff can and cannot do
For a 12 V system, the HK4 manual lists four selectable cutoff levels: 11.8, 12.0, 12.2 and 12.4 V. This is a hardware power-protection setting. It is different from the camera’s parking-recording timer and from advanced menu features advertised for other VIOFO cameras.
If the configured voltage threshold is reached, the kit can stop supplying the camera. A configured parking timer can also end a recording session sooner. Neither setting tells you in advance how many hours your particular vehicle will provide, and neither is a guarantee that an aging or depleted vehicle battery will start the engine afterward.
Do not select the lowest threshold simply to chase the longest recording time. Have the installer consider the vehicle and battery, and confirm the parking timer separately in the A229 Plus settings. The manual’s voltage choices describe the product; they are not our recommendation for a particular car.
Should you buy HK6 instead?
VIOFO’s current A229 Plus product information lists HK4 and HK6 as compatible optional kits. That does not mean every HK6 feature advertised with a newer camera becomes available on the A229 Plus. In particular, do not assume that A329-series hybrid parking behavior or its menus transfer to this model.
HK4 is a clear fit when your requirement is the supported ACC-based parking setup described above. Consider HK6 only after matching its extra capability to current A229 Plus documentation and firmware. Paying more for a feature shown on a different camera’s page does not establish an upgrade for yours.
Before ordering and after installation
Before ordering, confirm the exact two-channel camera, the kit model, included accessories and the vehicle installation plan. Check VIOFO’s current microSD recommendations independently; “high endurance” is a useful recording-card category, but it is not a guarantee that every card works in every dash camera.
After installation, confirm that driving footage records, that the camera enters the intended parking mode after the ignition is switched off, and that saved parking clips can actually be played back. Check the rear view as well as the front view. A power light is not enough to verify the result.
If you need a specific overnight recording duration, measure it on your installed system across representative conditions before depending on it. We have not measured runtime or tested an HK4 installation in a vehicle.
Research basis: VIOFO A229 Plus 2CH product specifications; HK4 English manual, especially the power inputs and cutoff table; VIOFO hardwire installation guidance; and the selected US Amazon camera and kit listings. Amazon’s On-Dash Camera Best Sellers list informed product selection, not a quality score or a runtime claim. Sources and selected packages checked September 29, 2026.
If you are comparing a different power path, use our OBD cable, hardwire kit and dash-cam battery comparison to separate camera power from the signal that starts parking mode.
