Blink Outdoor 4 uses two AA 1.5-volt lithium non-rechargeable batteries. Treat its USB-C option as an external power route, not a plan for charging those cells. If your buying requirement is a camera with a rechargeable internal battery, this is a different maintenance arrangement.
The first decision is how you will reach and service the camera. The second is whether a suitable permanent power route is available. Decide both before mounting it where routine battery work becomes awkward.

Buy the specified battery type
Blink’s Outdoor 4 specifications call for non-rechargeable lithium AA cells. Do not substitute a battery simply because “AA” appears on its package, or confuse lithium primary cells with a rechargeable lithium-ion product. Follow the camera manufacturer’s specified chemistry and voltage.
Blink advertises up to two years under its default conditions, with results depending on settings, use and environment. That is not a fixed replacement appointment. A busy entrance and an occasional-check location can create different servicing needs; we have not measured either.
Make access part of the installation plan
Imagine a battery warning arrives during a wet week. Can you safely reach the camera, remove it if necessary and work on it in suitable conditions? Can you identify which battery type to obtain without guessing from an old packet?
Keep a simple maintenance note: camera location, battery specification, installation date and date last checked. Record observed battery warnings rather than predicting an exact lifespan. If access is difficult, weigh that recurring work before choosing a battery-powered location.
USB-C power has its own weather requirements
Blink documents a Weather-Resistant Power Adapter as an optional Outdoor 4 power source. Its guidance warns about weather protection when the USB port cover is removed. An ordinary indoor cable that happens to fit the connector does not establish a suitable outdoor installation.
Review the approved adapter, cable routing and protected power arrangement as a complete installation. If that route cannot be made suitable, keep the battery plan or change the camera location. Do not leave the port exposed as a temporary long-term solution.
Backup batteries do not back up the whole system
When using the Weather-Resistant Power Adapter, Blink advises leaving working batteries installed for automatic camera-power fallback. This protects one part of the setup. It does not supply electricity to the router, internet equipment or Sync Module.
For example, an outdoor camera can still have battery power while the equipment indoors is off. Do not interpret that situation as proof that alerts or remote access will continue. Our camera power-outage checklist follows the rest of that chain.
Check the package before buying
During our October 5 US check, the standalone Outdoor 4 link redirected to a different package. The verified shopping link below is explicitly the Outdoor 4 + Wired Doorbell 2K+ bundle with Sync Module Core, in black. It is not the add-on camera by itself and is not a battery-replacement kit.
Check Outdoor 4 + Wired Doorbell 2K+ bundle
Consider that package only if its camera, module and additional wired doorbell match your project. The doorbell has its own wiring requirements; this article does not validate a doorbell installation. If you already have the camera and need new cells, you do not need this camera bundle. If you only want another camera, compare the available add-on option and its final selected contents before paying.
Core’s inclusion also does not settle every saved-video requirement. Review our Outdoor 4 package and Sync Module guide to keep storage planning separate from power.
After a battery change
Follow Blink’s cover-opening instructions, align the battery polarity marks, and refit the cover correctly. Check camera status, the intended view and an ordinary motion event after it is back in place. Confirm a saved clip separately if recording is part of your setup.
If you use the floodlight mount, revisit the separate camera and floodlight power supplies; this article does not change the mount’s accessory compatibility restrictions.
